September is Suicide Prevention Month

At The Inclusive Brew, our dream has always been bigger than coffee. We’re working toward opening a café that feels like home—where community, connection, and authenticity are served alongside every cup. While our doors aren’t open yet, our mission is already alive. This September, we pause to honor something deeply important: Suicide Prevention Month.

Why This Month Matters

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and it impacts people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. Yet for so many, conversations about mental health remain surrounded by stigma and silence.

For LGBTQ+ individuals and other marginalized communities, the weight can be even heavier. Research shows higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, often tied to discrimination, rejection, or lack of affirming spaces. That’s why spaces rooted in care, visibility, and inclusion matter so much—they remind us that no one has to carry their struggles alone.

A Safe Space Can Save a Life

Even before The Inclusive Brew opens, we are committed to the idea that belonging saves lives. Sometimes hope looks like a big, life-changing moment—but more often, it’s the small things:

  • Being greeted by name and with kindness.

  • Sitting in a space where you don’t have to explain or hide who you are.

  • Finding community that affirms your worth exactly as you are.

That’s the kind of place The Inclusive Brew is being built to be. Yes, we’ll serve coffee—but our real mission is to serve people.

A Personal Note

This mission is deeply personal to me. Like so many others, I’ve seen firsthand how silence, stigma, and a lack of safe spaces can take a toll on mental health. The Inclusive Brew is my way of responding to that reality—by creating a place where no one feels like they have to hide, and where community can truly be a lifeline.

I believe in my heart that when people have a place where they feel seen, respected, and supported, lives can change. Sometimes, even lives can be saved.

What We Can All Do

Suicide prevention is not just about crisis moments—it’s about the everyday ways we show up for one another. This month, we encourage you to:

  • Check in on your people. Send a text, invite someone out, or simply remind them they matter.

  • Listen without judgment. Sometimes being present is the greatest gift we can offer.

  • Normalize mental health conversations. Talking openly helps break down shame and stigma.

  • Share resources. Remind loved ones that support exists and it’s okay to reach out.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know that help is available. In the U.S., you can dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline—free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Moving Forward Together

As we continue working toward opening The Inclusive Brew, we carry this mission close: creating a safe, affirming, and welcoming space where every person belongs. Suicide Prevention Month is a reminder of why this matters so much.

When our doors open, we want every person who steps inside to feel lighter, safer, and more at home than when they walked in. Until then, we’ll keep building this vision—with you, for you, and because of you.

You matter. You are not alone. And you will always belong here.
