Our Story
For as long as I can remember, I've dreamed of creating more than just a coffee shop. I've dreamed of creating a place where people feel like they belong.
That dream came from my own experiences and from seeing a need within the LGBTQIA+ community. For many people, bars and clubs have long been the primary gathering spaces. Those places are important, but they aren't for everyone. I wanted to imagine something different—a welcoming café where connection happens over coffee instead of cocktails, where you can meet a friend, study, work, attend an event, or simply exist without feeling like you have to be anyone other than yourself.
That's why I started The Inclusive Brew.
The Inclusive Brew isn't just about coffee—it's about community. It's built on the belief that everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and valued, regardless of who they are or who they love. Our mission is to create a space where LGBTQIA+ individuals, allies, families, neighbors, and visitors can all gather around one table.
Today, that mission begins with our mobile beverage trailer, bringing specialty coffee, handcrafted drinks, and community to events throughout Connecticut. But this is only the beginning. The trailer is the first step toward the permanent café I've envisioned for years.
One day, The Inclusive Brew will become a late-night community café filled with comfortable seating, great music, local art, meaningful conversations, and events that bring people together. From open mic nights and book clubs to poetry readings, workshops, and community gatherings, it will be a space designed to celebrate creativity, encourage connection, and remind people that they are never alone.
Choosing the name The Inclusive Brew wasn't a marketing decision. It was a promise. A promise that every person who visits our trailer today—and one day walks through the doors of our café—will be welcomed with kindness, respect, and without having to question whether they belong.
This has never been just a business to me. It's a lifelong dream rooted in the hope of creating something that makes people feel seen. If someone leaves with a great drink, that's wonderful. But if they leave feeling a little more connected, a little more accepted, or simply knowing they belong, then we've accomplished exactly what we set out to do.
I can't wait to welcome you.
Joyfully,
Kevin Wheeler (he/him)
