Why Pride Month Matters at The Inclusive Brew

At The Inclusive Brew, we’re not open just yet — but that doesn’t mean we’re waiting to show up for our community. While we work behind the scenes to build a space rooted in inclusivity, care, and connection, we’re proud to take part in this month’s Pride celebrations in a meaningful way.

Pride Month isn’t just a celebration — it’s a reminder. A reminder of how far the LGBTQIA+ community has come, how much further there is to go, and why spaces like the one we’re building matter more than ever.

The Roots of Pride

Pride Month takes place every June to honor the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 in New York City. It began as a protest — a response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a queer bar in Greenwich Village that had long been a refuge for the LGBTQ+ community. That night, patrons fought back, sparking several days of demonstrations. It was a turning point — a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Figures like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, trans women of color, were at the heart of this movement, pushing for visibility, justice, and equality. The first official Pride marches took place in 1970 to mark the one-year anniversary of Stonewall, and the movement has only grown stronger since.

But Pride is more than its history. It’s about resistance, yes — but also joy, and the right to live authentically. It’s about community, chosen family, and love that refuses to be hidden.

Why Pride Matters to The Inclusive Brew

At The Inclusive Brew, we’re building more than a coffee shop — we’re creating a space where everyone can feel safe to simply exist as themselves. Pride Month reminds us why that matters. It calls on us to be intentional, vocal, and active in our support of LGBTQIA+ individuals — not just in June, but always.

Even before our doors open, we want our presence in the community to reflect those values.

This month, we’re excited to be participating in two local Pride events, where we’ll be sharing our story, connecting with new friends, and celebrating the beauty and strength of the LGBTQIA+ community:
