Pride, Progress, and Pouring the First Cup
As Pride Month begins, I've been reflecting on what Pride truly means.
For many people, Pride is a celebration. It's a chance to gather, be visible, and embrace who we are. But Pride is also about history. It's about remembering the people who fought for the rights, safety, and visibility that many of us benefit from today. It's about honoring resilience, recognizing progress, and acknowledging that the work of creating a more inclusive world is still ongoing.
At its heart, Pride is about belonging.
It's about creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, accepted, and free to be themselves.
That idea is the reason The Inclusive Brew exists.
For years, The Inclusive Brew was simply a dream. A vision of a place where community came first. A place where people could gather without feeling like they needed to fit into a particular mold. A true third place—not home, not work, not a bar—but somewhere welcoming, intentional, and safe.
The idea grew from my own experiences and from conversations with countless others who were searching for that same feeling of connection. Somewhere to meet. Somewhere to relax. Somewhere to simply exist.
Like many LGBTQIA+ people, I've spent time in spaces where bars and nightlife were often the primary places to find community. Those spaces have an important place and purpose, but I found myself wondering what else could exist. What would it look like to build a space centered around coffee, conversation, creativity, and connection?
That question eventually became The Inclusive Brew.
Over the past year, I've spent countless hours researching, planning, touring storefronts, meeting with landlords, attending events, filling out applications, and working to turn an idea into something tangible. There were moments when the dream felt within reach and moments when it felt incredibly far away.
What I learned is that building something meaningful takes time.
And while the long-term vision remains a permanent café, I realized I didn't want to wait for the perfect location before sharing the mission with the community.
So instead of waiting, I started building.
Today, The Inclusive Brew trailer is officially open and serving specialty coffee, dirty sodas, and non-alcoholic beverages throughout Fairfield County and beyond.
On paper, it's a beverage trailer.
But to me, it's the first real step toward something much larger.
It's the first physical version of a dream I've carried for a long time.
Every iced latte, cold brew, and dirty soda we serve is another step toward the future home of The Inclusive Brew. Every event is an opportunity to introduce the concept to new people. Every conversation reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
For the first time, people can experience The Inclusive Brew not just as an idea, but as something real.
There is still so much work ahead, but for the first time, I can look around and see the vision taking shape in real time.
People are stopping by.
They're trying the drinks.
They're sharing the story.
They're becoming part of it.
And that's something worth celebrating.
And during Pride Month, that feels especially meaningful.
Because Pride isn't only about celebrating who we are today. It's also about building the future we want to see. It's about creating communities where people feel welcome. It's about making room for connection. It's about ensuring that everyone has places where they can belong.
That's what The Inclusive Brew has always been about.
While we're excited to serve great coffee and fun drinks, this business has never been just about what's in the cup. It's about creating moments of connection. It's about fostering community. It's about proving that belonging can exist anywhere.
The trailer may be small, but what it represents is much bigger.
It's the foundation.
The first physical chapter of a dream that has lived in my heart for a long time.
A dream that will one day become a permanent café designed intentionally for connection, accessibility, comfort, and belonging.
This isn't a rebrand.
It isn't a pivot.
It's the foundation.
As we enter Pride Month, I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this journey so far. Whether you've followed along online, stopped by the trailer, shared an encouraging word, attended an event, or simply believed in the vision, thank you.
The Inclusive Brew was never just about coffee.
It's about belonging.
And this Pride Month, I'm proud to finally be pouring the first cup.
